Bloodhorse reporting on the drop in handle for August 2010.
But the fewer racing days in 2010 seems to be a large part of this.
From Bloodhorse:
Pari-mutuel handle was off by about $100 million in August compared with the same month in 2009, yet another indication any rebound will take longer than some in the industry imagined.
August [...]

From the Pasadena Star-News, an article about how exchange betting in California will be postponed until May 2012, instead of being available immediately. Good morning Wizards,
Don't know what it is about Golden Gate, but I find good Highly Pressured race opportunities there.
Today's 8th race is an example.

Bo Derek probably didn’t get upstaged much during her heyday in the 1970s and ‘80s, when she was one of the world’s most recognizable sex symbols. But when her name goes before the Senate Rules Committee Wednesday morning, she’ll likely be overshadowed by another appointee to the California Horse Racing Board.
That appointee would be the [...]

From Reuters, a sobering article on the future of US racing. While not optimistic, there are some bright spots, specifically the stats on Del Mar and Monmouth, and the surprisingly number of younger fans. Still, is there anything that can make horse racing competitive with the adrenaline pumping, money sucking allure of the [...]

From Bloodhorse, a matter of importance to ValueCappers™ and handicappers: Santa Anita will be going from the synthetic surfaces with which it has been experimenting back to dirt.
By Hank Wesch
Santa Anita is about to become the first California racetrack to abandon the 2006-mandated synthetic surface experiment and return [...]

Bloodhorse reports on the renovations at Remington Park. It's one of my favorite evening tracks to bet with the large fields and good prices. I'm hoping they can keep the field size up!
Remington Park’s rollercoaster ride began Sept. 1, 1988, and 22 years later, horse racing’s belle of the Sooner State got [...]

From the Frederick News Post, an interesting look at how table games are attracting players to horse racing.
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — The blonde twenty-something lifted the beers off the bar counter and distributed them amongst her friends.
"Five beers for $15," she said. "You gotta love West Virginia."
Undoubtedly used to bar-hopping in northern Virginia where [...]
